Review: Miss May I - Monument

This album was released in 2010, but I just recently got my hands on it. I’d enjoyed their previous release, ‘Apologies Are For The Weak’, so I was interested to see what they would be bringing back to the table. Apparently, they brought back a kick in the teeth. The drummer holds it all together with blistering fills and great tempo changes. The guitars are more dynamic than a straight-forward hardcore album. The vocals hit the high and low range growls, with many clean choruses that don’t come across as whiny or poppy. There is even a mellow track, ‘In Recognition’, that soothes you right into the title track, the strongest and final song of the album. Miss May I definitely pulls inspiration from As I Lay Dying, so any fans of them would be immediately drawn in. A quick album with 10 tracks clocking in at just over 35 minutes, I would recommend this to fans of AILD-style metalcore.
