Review: World Under Blood - Tactical

I picked up this album, reading the label on the front ‘melodic death metal’ and wondering if that was accurate. I would say that is one way to describe the album, but it doesn’t entirely work for me. The main influences in the band are Deron Miller (vocals, guitar) from CKY and Tim Yeung (drums) who has played with Hate Eternal, Nile, and Divine Heresy to name a few. I think a CKY fan will not dig this because it’s too heavy, and a classic Tim Yeung fan will not dig this because it’s not quite heavy enough. That being said, I like both styles and truly enjoy this album. No matter what Deron tries, the songs have that signature style and guitar sound that CKY fans want. The drumming is truly beastly throughout the album. I’m positive Tim could make Nickelback a metal powerhouse if he wanted (yeah, I went there). The album is heavy, has some good solos in the right places, and really flies through the 36 minutes of this 9-song initial offering. I don’t know how long it will be before a second album, if one happens at all, but metal fans should be able to thrash plenty to this.
