As I sit here listening to Tripper, I’m trying to figure out what to even say about this band. A 2-piece for the majority of their career, which has lasted 10 years at least, and which has churned out 6 EP’s and this being their 5th album, and I’ve never listened to these Sacramento guys. But the songs are telling me why. This instrumental mixture of math rock and noise rock is not my cup of tea. The songs sound looped and repetitive, and with only guitar and drums there is not a whole lot of differentiating between each track in my opinion. It’s the same as my opinion of the majority of techno: there might be nuances that I’m missing, but it’s ok that I’m missing it because I don’t want to listen to this anymore. I did like one section of the song ‘Long Hair’, but if you asked me to find it again I don’t know if I could. Maybe this is your kind of jam: it’s just not mine.
