Review: Kittie - I've Failed You

This is an appropriate title to an album in that you know what you are getting before you ever put it in your CD player, and it pains me a bit to say that. I remember first hearing Kittie so very long ago and getting drawn in with their energy and style. Yes, they were 16 or so when Spit came out, and maybe that’s the teenage angst energy. What the listener is left with in 2011 is an album that just sounds confused. Switching between hardcore, metal, and oddly bluesy guitar parts, this album doesn’t make sense. The screaming vocals sound labored, and the singing vocals are lackluster. The guitar ‘solo’ parts are sloppy, flat, and simplistic. Even tracks like ‘Empires (Part 2)’ should get the blood flowing, but everything sounds so forced and unnatural that it’s hard to enjoy. Basically, the entire CD just sounds slow and tired, making for an overall unappetizing listen.
